Why “an intentional pause”?

image of finger pressing pause buttonI’ve gotten a number of questions as to “why an intentional pause”?

For so many of us, the moment between something happening and our reaction is next to nothing. We blow up, we check out, we do something that later we look back and go, “That was so not me!”

One of the biggest things I’ve learned as a counselor is that my job is to help people find space, find a way to pause between something happening and what we do after.

Response, not reaction.

So, when I was beginning to develop this private practice, I couldn’t help but think about that. I want to help people be intentional about that pause, about bringing that into our responses in ways that make us go, “That was me, responding with integrity.”

There are so many things we can do in that pause. And sometimes, we just need a pause in our own lives to regroup, to reassess. Here at An Intentional Pause Counseling, I work with clients to find whatever type of pause(s) will be most beneficial in the moment.

If this sounds like something that could be helpful, I encourage you to reach out. You can reach me via email at an.intentional.pause (at) gmail(dot) com or by phone (443) 848-3760. You can also set up an initial consultation with me at my online scheduler.

I look forward to hearing from you!
